I am researching the potential of video games as an informal immersive language environment. For my DPhil project, I designed an experimental study, where language learners play a cooperative video game over several months. I am interested in the effect gaming has on the learners’ speaking skills, but I also want to understand how the nature of the players’ gameplay interactions can explain such language developments.
Short biography:
I am originally from Germany and there, I did my undergraduate degree in English and Latin and a Masters in Education at Bielefeld University. After that, I came to Oxford to do my PGCE in 2016 and subsequently, I taught German, French and Latin at schools in London and Switzerland. I also gained some teaching experience in Zambia and China, and taught adult refugees in Germany. I am committed to finding new ways to learn languages with digital media and technology.
